Friends Learning Together
"A friend loves at all times..." -Proverbs 17:17
About Us
Friends Learning Together (FLT) is a group of Christian homeschooling families seeking to provide our families with opportunities to learn, play, and grow together as friends and as children of God. FLT started in 2011, with five families and 13 children who envisioned a co-op that would be excellent for the kids, fun for all, and a blessing to the moms.
For the 2024/2025 school year, FLT will offer academic classes and social activities for families with children in preschool-8th grade.

Weekly Rhythm
Mondays - "Class Day" (required)
On Monday mornings we meet for class and share lunch together. We offer history, science, geography, and public speaking. Middle school also participates in a literature and writing class.
Wednesday - Recess (optional)
We meet on Wednesday afternoons at local parks and playgrounds in the Ashburn/Leesburg area. Wednesdays are a great opportunity for children and moms to get fresh air and cultivate friendships.

Two field trips are scheduled per month. Each family is responsible for coordinating one field trip per year.
Past field trips have included: Seneca Schoolhouse, Ifly, The Conche, Blue Ridge Wildlife Center, National Geographic Museum, Loudoun County Animal Shelter, Harper's Ferry, Heritage Farm Museum, The Branch, Ashburn Volunteer Fire, and

FAQ
No. FLT is a true co-op and requires a parent to serve on a teaching team.
Each family will have a parent serve on a teaching team and will be paired with at least one other parent. You will use a designated curriculum as your guide and will work with your partner to plan classes, create a syllabus, decide what weeks you will teach, etc. On weeks you are not teaching you will be assisting your partner. We have carefully curated our curriculum choices to support you so you do not need to create content. When available we will share past syllabi, lesson plans, etc. You will also have a planning period each week on Mondays that you can utilize to prepare for future classes. You do not need to have prior teaching experience or a degree- a willing heart is all we ask for :)
K-8th grade classes run on a ~3-6 year cycle. This allows some students to experience the same topics more than once- at a younger and more advanced level.
Example: Geography
Year 1 - North America, Caribbean, Central America, South America
Year 2 - Middle East, Africa
Year 3 - Europe, Asia, Australia & Oceania
Repeat
No. For K-5th grade, FLT provides a day of instruction and activities (Mondays) for science, history, geography, and public speaking. Middle school will also include literature and writing. Teaching teams will also provide a syllabus for the year, projects, homework (as applicable), and "digging deeper" opportunities. Families will want to choose their own language arts and math curriculum and whatever other electives they are interested in.
FAQ
(Continued)
Registration is $100 per child. Any field trips your family chooses to participate in will be an additional expense. Some classes will also require that you purchase the assigned textbook or workbook.
We are blessed to be able to keep our fees low due to the generosity of our host church.
In addition to serving on a teaching team and planning one field trip per year you are also required to serve on one committee. Examples include planning a family social, mom's night out, care team, yearbook, missionary celebration, 5k/fun run, birthday cards, etc. Upon registering we ask that you commit to FLT for one year as you will be an integral part of your teaching team and all classes will have prepped and prepared for your children.
Technically, no. Our ability to accommodate children younger than preschool level depends on the numbers of teachers, students, if they are potty trained, etc. each given year. If you have a little one and are interested in joining please reach out so we can see if we can help.
Yes- we love dads! Dads are welcome to be the family representative for a teaching team on Mondays, visit, accompany to parties, field trips, etc.
Yes, our host church is a peanut and tree nut free facility.
In addition to our weekly classes, recesses, and field trips, we offer many social opportunities throughout the year for kids and moms to grow friendships, including moms' night out, a fall family social, two missionary parties, a Christmas book exchange, a Valentine's exchange, field day, a 5K/Fun Run, and an end-of-year party.
